Mark has extensive experience as a lighting designer in Drama, Opera, Dance, Ballet, Musicals and Arena productions in all scales and formats both in the UK and world-wide. His dance designs include contemporary and classical works for The Royal Ballet, The Birmingham Royal Ballet, Northern Ballet Theatre, American Ballet Theatre, Berlin Staatsballett, Stuttgarter Ballett; In opera he has designed for Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, Bayerishe Staatsoper, Potsdam, Scottish Opera, Vlaamse Opera, Israeli Opera, Strasbourg Opera du Rhin, Glyndebourne, Holland Park, Opera Northern Ireland. Lighting for drama and muscals on London's West End, Broadway and New York, as well as many of the UK's leading regional theatres.

 

He began lighting professionally in London and joined Glyndebourne Festival Opera in 1978 until 1992 when he became Head of Lighting at the Royal National Theatre, London, from 1993-2003. He was appointed as an Associate of the Chichester Festival in 2006.

 

Mark's opera designs were selected as part of the British entry into the 1999 Prague Quadrennial. He has exhibited his work in the British design exhibitions "Time & Space", "2d3d" and “Collaborators”. In 2007 he received a Drama Desk nomination for “Outstanding Lighting Design” for Prometheus Bound at Classic Stage, New York.

 

He is a member of the ALD Executive representing professional Lighting Designers. He wites for Focus Magazine and has lectured at many of the principal Drama colleges and universities in the UK.
